about AF7 week8

AFUNDI sebijak bijaknya...

bye for now.

about tiara menuju puncak af7

It started at home watching The 1st episode of Diari AF7 and we were suppose to leave around 945pm. I was watching the program with Dani, Mila and DSEN with the principal is still in her room getting ready.

when she walked out of her room, everyone was pleasantly surprised how stunning she looks in her red number and we were ready to leave her home for The Courtyard, Damansara for the press conference.

As we were leaving her home for her car, we chatted on how excited she is to be the new principal and we talked about plans on how to make this season of Akademi Fantasia the most memorable one and the most exciting.  And true to her style, all of her projects and endeavors has always been "the most of something"... i was enjoying the moment, sharing her vision on how she wants to transform this season of AF into something bigger and better than it is now, it is a big challenge for her as everyone knows that AF is already so BIG! but knowing her, i know she can... this lady is known for making small thing BIG in a good way... insyaallah.

making her way to her ride for the press conference, i couldn't stop thinking that this would be the most interesting AF season ever, first of all, she is now officially the 1st woman to head the faculty where 6 previous season all of them were men of industry.

second of all, i thought to myself, with a woman with such great style, this will also be the most stylish season ever. having work with/for her since 2004, i know well that she is such a perfectionist, honestly those 12 star hopefuls don't know what they have got themselves into for this season. an exciting ride i am sure!

once in her car, she starts her usual routine, believe it or not, this lady likes to do her own make-up and it has always been like this that she likes to do her make-up in her car, i asked her, "tak takut ker doing her make up in a moving car" to which she said, " i am used to this and i can be more relax in a car".

We talked about how she wants to transform the kids of AF7 from zero to hero and more, i listened with great interest because i know she can, just look at PGLm and PRTm, some of the new stars in town such as Azrul "Cham" Zaidi, the all girl group Luscious were all in the ensemble of PGLm and PRTm, even AC Mizal big comeback was due to PGLm i dare say... and Adlin is bigger then ever after potraying Sultan Mahmud in both PGLm and PGL the movie.  she started scouting talents way before from her Kit Kat Club days with names like Sofea Jane, Aida Aris to name a few were all discovered by her.

upon reaching the location, we parked the car far away from the venue, while both of us listened to her bodyguard communicating with AF producer waiting the green light for her to move in (apparently her appearance on the diary is coming up on air in a few moment) we talked further about how the kids and even the teachers were pleasantly surprised when she went to the academy this morning, it was a well kept secret that we managed to keep even from our Enfiniti office (they were all excited when i walk into the office this morning) and suddenly her bodyguard said it is now time to walk in... she smiled at me and said, "well chedd ... here we go!"

as she walked down the steps entering the venue, flashes of camera light clicks towards her :) we were greeted by AF7 producer and Astro Ria big boss Khairul Mizan Shagul and she stop for a photo op session before moving in to meet the rest of the press.

She stop, smiled and posed true to her style, looking gorgeous as always, well , "a principal doesn't have to look geeky ok" as she said to me earlier in the car.

like what we discussed earlier in the car, AF7 came at the right time, being just after the successful  run of PGLm season 3 recently, with 7 being her lucky number.. it is all looking good.

and guys, introducing Datin Seri Tiara Jacquelina, your new AF7 principal.

After the first photo session, we went straight into the venue where the rest of the press were waiting and this image was live on TV, i couldn't help to think to myself... "oh wow! garangnya baju... macam matrix pulak haha"

As we were waiting for the organizer to set up the presentation of the new Principal's 7 syarat / mission statement, Tiara was ushered aside to do her live chat with Berita Awani by Awani's most diligent entertainment reporter, Muzaffar Mustafa.

immediately after, Tiara presented to the reporters her 7 syarat/mission for this season which was the exact presentation that she presented to the teachers and the students of AF7 earlier in the morning. read more about the 7 syarat at sultan muzaffar's blog.

we ended the night around 11 as the reporter were rushing to print the story for today's new and on the side note, i must say the food at The Courtyard Damansara Heights were absolutely gorgeous!

I was lucky enough to be with the af7 new principal, Datin Seri Tiara Jacquelina right from her getting ready at home, and to follow her from Puncak Ledang since 2004, and tonight , from the Puncak of her home to The Courtyard Damansara Height , menuju puncak to the Press Conference to announce her as the the AF7 principal.

This photo collection was suppose to be uploaded immediately as she appear on Diari Akademi Fantasia but i left my Mac at home while rushing to her place... :( nevertheless, here are in chronological order, photos of her trip from home to the press conference. once again, congratulations Tiara... Transformasi AF7 bermula.

Tiara’s Malaysian dream
29 Jan 09 : 11.00AM

By N Shashi Kala
shashikala@thenutgraph.com

Tiara as Puteri Gunung Ledang (all pics courtesy of Tiara Jacquelina)

PRODUCER and actress Datin Seri Tiara Jacquelina Abdullah is best known forPuteri Gunung Ledang, both the movie and stage musical which she produced and starred in.

PGL is being restaged from 6 to 21 Feb at Istana Budaya by Tiara's company, Enfiniti Productions. It will be Tiara's swan song — she is reprising her award-winning role as Gusti Putri for the third, and she says final, time.

Tiara's grandparents

Tiara, who is of Burmese-Indonesian-Chinese lineage, has been involved in the entertainment industry since the 1980s. She started out scouting talents for a modeling agency, before moving into television production.

Her acting credits include Ringgit Kasorrga, for which she won the best actress award in the 12th Malaysian Film Festival in 1995,Perempuan Melayu Terakhir in 1999, andPGL in 2004.

Married to former cabinet minister Datuk Seri Mohd Effendi Norwawi, Tiara has two children, Hani Karmila and Mohd Eridani.

She recently spent some time in Australia learning painting under the tutelage of renowned artist Peter Barraclough, and also took up creative writing.

In an e-mail interview, Tiara tells The Nut Graph about living the Malaysian dream, and her "been there, done almost everything" aspect of being Malaysian.

TNG: Where were you born?

I was born in Assunta Hospital, Petaling Jaya and my first home was in Jalan Kilat, Klang. I grew up mainly in Ampang Jaya, Selangor. I have two younger siblings, Carol and Nicholas. My alma mater is St Mary's in Selayang.

What is your strongest memory of the place in which you grew up?

Tiara's parents on their wedding day

Basketball with the Ampang Jaya boys, playing in the many monsoon drains of Ukay Heights, and cycling. Also walking for hours every day — to catch the 183 bus from home to school — in pitch darkness at 6.30am with my sister Carol. Walking to school from AIA (the insurance company's building in Ampang) after a good roti canai banjir breakfast. Life's pleasures were simple, like having the crunchiest goreng pisang for tea or catching the nasi lemak lady for the last plate before she ran out.

What are the stories you hold onto the most from your family?

Tiara's grandfather, with P Ramlee
I think of the story of my grandfather, Datuk Eddie Eu Eng Hock, who started out as a shipping clerk riding a humble bicycle to work. He was of Burmese descent and originally came to Malaya from China a few years before the war. My grandmother was Chinese.

After World War II, with my grandmother by his side, he went on to set up Eu-Lee Landing and Shipping, the country's first official stevedoring company in Port Swettenham, which today is called Port Klang. My grandfather always told us that good luck or good fortune is what you make out of good opportunities and hard work.

How do you connect with these stories as a Malaysian?

It tells me that if there ever was a Malaysian dream, it's alive and well and Malaysia really is a country of opportunity for those who are willing to work hard enough for it. And there is no short cut to success, not if you're in for the long run.

What aspects of your identity do you struggle with the most as a Malaysian?

Gosh, I think I can count myself as "been there, done almost everything", in this respect. My dad's side of the family is Burmese-Chinese and my mother is Chinese Indonesian. My parents, Eddie Eu and Nelly Tan, got married in 1966.

Part of the Eu family

I was born into a very staunch Buddhist family, the Eu family, where all the men in our family shaved their heads and became monks.

I converted to Christianity when I was 12, along with my brother and sister, and we convinced our mother to convert, too! I became a Muslim when I got married in 1993 (to former husband, the late Hani Mohsin). So I guess I've almost done the full circle where religious beliefs are concerned!

Tiara as a baby, with her Aunt Nora, and cousins
Alex and Angie Eu (rightmost)
And nothing else about me has changed. I'm still the same spunky little gal, ready to take on the boys, (and the world, in my mind) on the Ampang Jaya basketball courts. I can never understand why religion divides us so much. We're just roses that go by different names as far as I'm concerned.

Today, our family celebrates almost every festive occasion — Christmas, Hari Raya as well as Chinese New Year — with equal gusto. If only religion could be practiced in moderation and everyone would practice their beliefs in their own private space and not impose any personal judgments on the way others live their lives.

Describe the kind of Malaysia you want to leave behind for your children.

I dream of a future Malaysia where our children will be wise enough to judge for themselves what's right and wrong. [I want their judgment to come] from education, awareness and guided exposure, and not force or fatwa. I hope that the country will spot and nurture potential talents we have in our backyard and inspire them to love this country enough to take Malaysia to even greater heights.

Hopefully we can, as a united and multi-racial Malaysia, join hands to fight the big fight out there in the big blue marble. [Let's] not waste our energy on small domestic squabbles that will only hinder our progress further.

about tiara saying goodbye to Puteri

Latest Press Release from Tiara

It’s a big day in my life. Playing Gusti Putri Raden Ajeng Retno Dumilah has been such a big part of who I am for the last 5-6 years. It’s like having to say goodbye to your best friend.

I feel its time for me to consider that this could be my last performance as Puteri.

I’ve achieved more than any artiste can ever dream of in theatre, film, TV, had the fortune of working with the best talents in our industry. I think we managed to create some new benchmarks, we added to the growth of theatre-goers, and contributed to the acceptance and recognition of Malaysian films locally as well as abroad.

We’ve had the honor and prestige of taking our play to the Esplanade and to have performed to a full house every night. We took our film to Venice, got considered for an Academy award, sold PGL all over the world…

I would say that I’ve had a full adventure on my journey with PGL, and having played PGL. Taken it as far as I could, won more awards than I could ever dream of winning, and achieving far more than any artiste can ever hope to achieve.

I’m looking forward to moving on to other dreams next, to climb and conquer new mountains. I feel I have so much more to give, so much more to learn, but in order to continue to grow, I need to move on.

I’ve been very blessed, i have had the support of everyone from the Government, the Ministry, the Malaysian public, my friends from the mass media, my fans, and above all my family, that has got me to where I am today as Puteri.

Our third season of PGL the Musical will mark the end of a great adventure for me, the end of something I had dreamed of all my life. But all through that wonderful adventure, I can only look back and say, I have had the best time of my life.

An almost brand-new PGLM for season 3!

Questions and answers for MHI / Breakfast show:

Question 1: 60,000 people have watched the PGL The Musical, so why should they come see it again?

If you have watched and enjoyed it before, you will enjoy it even more this time. Every member of our team is committed to do better than they did before.

“Regulars” and repeat audiences of PGL - the musical will notice:

* Additional sets throughout the show

* The completely new lighting design throughout the show, which will bring a completely different energy to each scene,

* Some fresh new music, as well as new musical arrangements.

* Some new costumes

* More use of 3D in the Video Projections

* Tighter, deeper performances, which should pack in more of an emotional punch,

But the most significant change to the show will be a completely new element we are really excited to explore which is the use of illusions and special effects.

During our study tours of musicals over the past few months, Zahim, Malek and I noticed that the new musicals were using a more high-tech approach, which seemed to gel very well with new and seasoned theatre audiences. Lord Of The Rings, Zorro, Tarzan, and my favorite, Wicked, featured a lot of 3D and special effects, designed by illusionists. It represented an evolution of tradition-meets-modern-world, where audiences were looking beyond just the songs and dances to expect something a bit more spectacular and dynamic.

I think the show will move much more smoothly now and sparkle with a fresh, new attitude and energy.

Question 2:

What about the others who have not watched the show, never been to the theatre? What would u like to tell them?

I would say there are half a million other potential theatre-goers in the klang valley alone who haven't been to the theatre! For a lot of them, the theatre going culture is not a natural normal culture for them unlike watching TV, going to the cinema and even watching a concert. We hope to introduce theatre as a beautiful new EXPERIENCE.

These people have not yet experienced the magic of being transported into a magical world of music, beautiful lyrics and dialogue, mesmerizing sets, breathtaking choreography, an where your emotions are heightened because you are a part of what’s going on, on stage in front of your very eyes…

Everything is live, interactive, its perfection-100 ppl have to hit the perfect moment at the same time. 120minutes of precision and perfection! There is absolutely NO room for error.

Q : what was Enfiniti’s main mission when you first designed and planned for PGLM in 2006?

We made it our mission, and designed PGLM to be the best first experience in the theatre so that they will go to the theatre again and again. Its live, interactive, its perfection-100 ppl have to hit the perfect moment at the same time. 120minutes of precision and perfection!

Ppl who watch PGL have said that its as good as and even sometimes better than international shows. I'm sure every Malaysian wd be proud to see Malaysia produce world class productions. This is what the industry has been striving to achieve over the years.

The mission of our team is to contribute to this effort, and with the pool of talent and many quality productions we have seen over the past three years, I feel we are coming closer and closer to reaching this target.

Q : PGL made Malaysia proud being the first Malaysian musical to be performed at the prestigious Esplanade Theatre. What would you describe as one of your most unforgettable experiences performing for your first international audience?

The biggest recognition for PGL is that we were invited to perform at the Esplanade, which is so particular about the quality of productions they bring in. Feels so good to hear so many Malaysians in Singapore, saying how proud they are to be Malaysian tonight.

Q : Final message to the audience:

Personally, I’d say that Malaysian audiences who come to watch the show this February will see many things they haven’t seen before in past seasons of Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical.

about Stephen Rahman-Hughes and Starmaker Bootcamp

Starmaker Boot camp is back for another stimulating season to invigorate your musical senses!

Enfiniti Productions, the team that brought you Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical (PGLM) and P. Ramlee The Musical, is organizing the musical theatre workshop again from 15th to 30th November 2008. Leading the “Boot camp” is none other than West End star Stephen Rahman-Hughes, who plays the lead role of Hang Tuah in Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical. Assisting Stephen is Matt Cross who has worked closely with Stephen in the West End. Stephen and Matt have a combined professional experience of over 30 years in the entertainment industry, both working extensively in film, television, West End theatre (where both have starred in leading roles) and the music industry. Both also have extensive dance backgrounds.

The "Boot camp" will be a two-week, intensive performing arts workshop. Over the two-week course, the focus will be on improving the skills within the three disciplines of acting, singing and dance. The course will be looking at the technical aspect of each discipline. During the two weeks, the students will be encouraged to work towards a deeper, more truthful connection in each performance whether it be through song, acting or dance. “We will be teaching the do's and don'ts of the industry, passing on our knowledge and working with each individual to build confidence,” says Stephen.

Enfiniti will be sending several individuals who recently auditioned for Puteri Gunung Ledang the Musical Season 3 to attend the “Boot camp” to prepare them for the ‘real thing’ as part of the ensemble in PGLM 3. The boot camp will also be relevant for professional singers, actors or dancers who are looking for the next curve in their careers. “It’s such a competitive world out there and only those who keep up with change and continue to improve themselves will stand the test of time. Besides, you haven’t come full circle as a performer if you haven’t done musical theatre!” says Tiara Jacquelina, Managing Director of Enfiniti, Executive Producer and lead actress of PGLM. Tiara adds, “As for aspiring talent, this workshop will give you a very good idea of what to expect during rehearsals, and how to equip and 'position' yourself for a career in musical theatre.” Tiara will also be sharing her experiences and knowledge of the industry with the boot campers.

The program for the Boot camp will be skewed towards Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical, taking examples of scenes, songs and dance choreography from the musical. Participants who did not audition for PGLM may even be considered for a part in the ensemble, depending on their performance during the Boot camp. Overall, these two weeks aim to give each student a specific and detailed experience and to give them tools to carry into their careers as performers whilst having lots of fun.

STARMAKER: Musical Theatre Bootcamp
Participants may be naturally talented individuals who wish to sharpen their skills and abilities. Individuals may have professional or non-professional stage experience. about PGLM3 and RHB

RHB BANKING GROUP BRINGS PUTERI GUNUNG LEDANG THE MUSICAL SEASON 3 BACK TO KUALA LUMPUR

In support of the local performing arts, the RHB Banking Group brings the hit musical production, Puteri Gunung Ledang the Musical (PGLM), back to the Malaysian entertainment scene come February 2009. Back by popular demand, this will be the third season of the PGLTM in the country. The previous two seasons had received overwhelming response from avid performing arts fans and the general public alike.

“Puteri Gunung Ledang the Musical proved to be a national phenomenon when it was staged here in Kuala Lumpur, twice, in 2006 and it went on to create a stir on the Singaporean shores later in the year. The secret, I believe, lies in the familiar storyline with a very rich cultural heritage that was brought to life by the superb, flawless performance by a team of highly talented entertainers from the local theatre scene. RHB is proud to be able to bring back this production not only for those who have an aesthetic appreciation for the arts and cultural heritage, but also for our clients as a way of thanking them for their continuous support towards the Group,” said Michael J. Barrett, the Group Managing Director of the RHB Banking Group.

When asked about PGLM’s return, Tiara Jacquelina, who holds the lead role of Puteri and is the Executive Producer, said, “It’s wonderful knowing you have the best of the best working together on your team, and all of them challenging themselves to do better. We have a great synergy amongst us, great respect and admiration for each other’s work, and each of us continuously energizes the other, that’s something you can’t plan for – it’s either there or it’s not. The Arts is a powerful unifying force amongst people and with the growing support and generosity of patrons of the Arts like RHB, the public can develop their appreciation of the Arts, which is integral to the soul of any country.”

“We have enjoyed tremendous success from this production, and we are very excited to be able to bring it back for a third season. We are also very pleased to be able to collaborate with the RHB Banking Group for this season; it brings to mind that regardless of how much has evolved in this fast-paced, industrialized society, the love of the arts is still very much alive,” said Boudeng Edruce, General Manager of Enfiniti Productions.

The RHB Banking Group has previously sponsored numerous performances and shows in pursuit of supporting performing arts, and this time the Group is very pleased to work with Enfiniti Productions in bringing back PGLTM. The Group looks forward to presenting an equally excellent – if not better – show to the public this time round.

We’ve had 2 very successful seasons at Istana Budaya and an also sold-out season at Singapore’s Esplanade in 2006; by now, nearly 60,000 people in Singapore and Malaysia would have watched the show, and many of them are repeat audiences who keep coming back to enjoy the PGL Musical experience, which is such an encouragement for all of us to keep on delivering our best!
.
We also had an exciting journey putting on our second musical adventure, P.Ramlee The Musical with two successful seasons in Kuala Lumpur as well as a very well-received run at Singapore’s Esplanade. We learnt so much more from that experience and all through the time we were working on P.Ramlee, my team and I would meet to discuss PGLM in between-we talked about how we would make the show even more magical than before should we ever put it on for a third season. The ideas grew, and our excitement with it, and now we are all revved-up and so looking forward to putting on this exciting new production of the show!
.
Tiara on what the Puteri Gunung Ledang project means to her:
I guess it has always been in the back of my mind somewhere to bring the show back, because PGLM to me holds a special kind of magic I have personally never found in any other piece along my years as an actor and producer.
.
Story-wise for me, it’s a powerful and empowering woman’s journey, yet the musical version manages to capture moments of girlishness, a carefree, adventurous, impetuous attitude to life which I love, and most poignant of all, the courage to pursue a dream that I think many of us can relate to.
.
Production-wise, I must unashamedly admit that everytime I watch the show on a dvd recording, I watch with amazement and can hardly believe how we managed to put all this together!
.
(on sets) : I’m continually blown away by Raja Malek’s wonderful sets, which I think will always remain his masterpiece. Malek and Zahim have just returned from a study tour in France and the UK, watching several productions and meeting up with people from the industry, and we have discussed the enhancements they want to bring to the show to make it more spectacular than ever this time around.
.
(on script and lyrics) : In a musical, a lot of it is about how the songs and the dialogue move you. I go mmh-mmh-mhhhhh… when I think of how cleverly thought through every line of Adlin’s script and every verse of his lyrics are… I almost feel “geram” thinking about just how talented he is, sometimes. He has earned and fully deserves all the awards and accolades he has won for his writing, he really is a gem. This will also go down in history as one of his best works ever, for sure.
.
(on directing) : Zahim Albakri has brought to the show an incredible feel of a world-class stage musical with his vast experience and his influences, having watched almost all the major shows in the world. Many people after watching PGLM have told us that this show can go anywhere in the world and make Malaysia proud, isn’t that wonderful? Adlin’s partnership with him has brought out a strong Malay essence and spirit throughout the show, yet is contemporary, fast paced and very “today”. The elements of the east and west have been beautifully combined. Zahim’s challenge for the coming season is to make the PGLM experience even more breathtaking for the audience, especially those favorite magical moments that everyone loves.
.
(on choreography) : Pat Ibrahim has proved his mettle in stage choreography time and time again, with his stunning and awesome pieces of work in both PGLM as well as P.Ramlee. What I love about Pat is that he is continuously reinventing himself. When we discussed the new season, and a possibility of putting on “an exciting new show” now that we have so many months of lead time, Pat was the first to say “Yay! I want to re-choreograph EVERYTHING.” I believe audiences are in for a spellbinding time this season.
.
(on music) : With music maestro Roslan Aziz, the proof is in the pudding. He blew us away with the music of PGLM in February 2006. His combination with Singapore’s Dick Lee, who wrote the beautiful music was pure magic. Roslan proved that PGLM wasn’t a flash-in-the-pan when he blew us away again with his music direction in P.Ramlee, and if I know Roslan, something wonderful is already brewing for the new production in February!
.
For me, as producer, it’s wonderful knowing you have the best of the best working together on your team, and all of them challenging themselves to do better. We have a great synergy amongst us, great respect and admiration for each other’s work, and each of us continuously energizes the other, that’s something you can’t plan for – it’s either there or it’s not. And as executive producer, I have to equal and even exceed everybody’s effort, not just in putting together the production, but also with my second hat on, in my own performance as Puteri.
.
(Tiara as Puteri):
As an actor, I can’t explain it, PGLM has a very special magic about the story, the music and the songs that still gives me the goose bumps every time I think about it. PGLM was many Malaysians first love and first experience watching a Malaysian musical, and will always be my favorite piece of work, my pride and joy forever.
